Single Reeds was formed in 1989 by Sue Sneath to enable her clarinet and saxophone students to enjoy playing music with other people. The first group consisted of 5 pla
yers but it steadily grew and became known as Single Reeds in 1993.

Why Single Reeds? Because the initial instruments all belonged to a family of instruments using a single reed.

Since then the band has grown to include many other woodwind and brass instruments. At the moment we have flutes, oboes, clarinets, bass clarinet, bassoon, saxophones (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone), trumpets, flugelhorn, baritone horn, trombones, bass guitar, drum kit, percussion and keyboard.

We meet every 2-3 weeks at Powick Village Hall on Sundays from 3-5pm.

Individually, we range from about grade 4 to grade 8 standard, though many of us started playing as adults and have not taken music exams. So if you are looking to have a bit of fun and play with other people or need an excuse to take that instrument out of the cupboard, get in touch.
